One of the world’s greatest natural sites, waterfalls have millions of tourists each year and it's easy to see why. Stuck on which ones to visit? Here’s our guide to the greatest and most beautiful waterfalls in the world.
The Greatest Waterfalls To Visit
Plitvice National Park, Croatia
One of the largest tourist attractions in Croatia is Plitvice National Park. It is home to a huge network of beautiful waterfalls and lakes for visitors to wander around in awe.
Having been a global attraction since the 19th century, the Plitvice waterfalls are a must-do. Divided into the Upper Lakes and Lower Lakes, it’s easy to spend a whole day enjoying the outstanding views. Go around at your own pace on your own path to truly make the experience you’re own.
Man-made walkways make it easy to view the beautiful waterfalls. Now, you can get up close and personal and capture the perfect picture. Just mind that there may be a bit of a queue!
Though the falls here aren’t the largest, we still think they're some of the best waterfalls in the world.
Bigar Cascade Falls, Romania
Considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Europe, Bigar Cascade in Romania has a unique shape.
Unfortunately, one of the rocks collapsing in 2021 affected the shape of the waterfall. Nevertheless, Bigar Cascade is still a magnificent sight. The water tumbles around moss-covered shocks, giving it a unique bell shape. Though it’s not particularly large, it’s still an amazing view to behold.
Just be aware that it's not near any cities or public transport, so you will need to drive to Bigar Cascade. But it’s definitely worth the trip! Though the waterfall is best in the Spring after rainfall, it transforms into a winter wonderland during the colder months.
Walking around will only take a couple of hours. However, there are plenty of other attractions in the area to make the most of your day.
Dunn’s River Falls
Often considered the most visited attraction in Jamaica, Dunn’s River Falls is unmissable if you’re in the Caribbean country.
At 180m high and 600m long, this beautiful waterfall is incredibly impressive. Whilst you’ll get some once-in-a-lifetime pictures, there are also plenty of activities to do here as well. Visitors can do some wet rock climbing which takes you through the falls, or dry climbing beside it.
There are also plenty of places to do a hike to see even more stunning scenery. Plus, there's a nearby waterpark for the whole family to enjoy.
One of the greatest spots on the island, its lakes, springs, river and waterfalls will leave you inspired.
Edessa Waterfall, Greece
Despite its beautiful water, Greece is less famous for its waterfalls. However, there are some outstanding ones on offer. The Edessa Waterfall is easy to reach and centuries-old; not unsurprising for a country rich in ancient history.
Found near Thessaloniki, there are several waterfalls in the area and they’re completely free to visit. What’s truly attractive about Karanos, the largest fall in the area, is the ability to walk behind it. Take in the magnificent view from that height from a unique perspective. Just be warned, the waterfall will spray you!
Spring is the perfect time to visit because of the strength of the waterfall and the weather in Greece. You can even visit the cave systems underneath for a small fee.
Gostilje Waterfalls, Serbia
Last on our list of the greatest waterfalls in the world is Gostilje in Western Serbia. Locals believe you can find fairies bathing here. But there’s enough fairytale magic to find here even if you don’t see the creatures.
Elevated to 20 metres, there is a network of beautiful waterfalls to find here with plenty of history in the area. Pick up local delicacies in the quaint village tucked away in the scenery.
The perfect stop on your road trip from Zlatibor, the beautiful waterfalls will be a memorable experience.
